I've tried connecting Mac to my television via HDMI cable and consistently getting a green screen.
Although the Apple TV and Mac mini look similar, each is targeted toward very different users. The Apple TV is designed to make it easy to present the iTunes content stored on as many as five household computers - Mac or PC - on a recent television. The Mac mini, on the other hand, is substantially more powerful. If you have an HDTV and a Mac with a Thunderbolt port, Mini DisplayPort, or HDMI port, you may also be able to play audio from your computer on your TV. Connect your Mac to your TV Connect one end of the video cable (or an adapter, if necessary) to the computer’s Thunderbolt port, HDMI port, or DVI port, then connect the other end of the.
In an effort to address this issue I have:
- Changed between Mac Mini (2012) and MBP 2015 - get exactly the same issue
- Done a clean install on the Mac Mini
- Changed the HDMI cable
- Changed out the tv to brand new Hisense 65' 4k HD
I'm still getting the same issue of movies going green when on full screen and am able to replicate this across Netflix/movies on an external HD and have no idea why.
Best thing I can find from research is it's some kind of issue with handshake, but don't know how to address.

Your Mac provides several tools to help you identify it. The simplest is About This Mac, available by choosing About This Mac from the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of your screen. The other is the System Information app. Learn how to use these tools to identify your Mac.
If you don’t have your Mac or it doesn’t start up, use one of these solutions instead:
- Find the serial number printed on the underside of your Mac, near the regulatory markings. It’s also on the original packaging, next to a barcode label. You can then enter that serial number on the Check Coverage page to find your model.
- The original packaging might also show an Apple part number, such as MGEM2xx/A (“xx” is a variable that differs by country or region). You can match the Apple part number to one in the list below to find your model.
